“On Backorder” are NEW books that we know our distributors have on order from the publisher. ThriftBooks allows you to purchase a backordered title only when we can confirm that our distributors have placed an order with the publisher. “Temporarily Unavailable” titles are for both NEW and USED books that we have no visibility into when the title will become available again. You can add a “Temporarily Unavailable” title to your Wish List and we will notify you as soon as we have an available copy.
“Pre-Orders” are NEW books that have not yet reached their publication date. ThriftBooks allows you to purchase pre-orders once a title is 8 weeks or less from its publication date.
You can purchase any qualifying backorder from ThriftBooks just as you do any other item on our site. A title is considered a qualifying backorder if our distributors show they have that title on order from the publisher. The length of time it takes is dependent on the time it takes the publisher to make titles available to our distributors.

When a gift giver has completed the purchase of an item(s) from your list, ThriftBooks will send you an email once the item(s) has shipped informing you your gift is on its way, who made the purchase, and what item(s) to expect.
When you create a shared Wish List you can add how many of any item you want. When a gift giver has purchased from your list, we’ll update the “Needs/Has” numbers for everyone with a link to your list.
At this time, any list you share with a ship-to address added will allow gift givers to see your name and address so they can have items shipped directly to you.
Select “List Settings”, scroll to the bottom and select “Delete List”. Once a list has been deleted, it cannot be restored.

You can select “Add to Wish List” from any product page to add that item to your default list. You’ll want to go to your Wish List page to move items from your default list to a specific list. By default, all lists are set to private. You can change the privacy settings under “List Settings”.
Private: only you can see the list.
Shared: Anyone with access to the list (via a link or URL) can view it and purchase items from it. Adding a ship-to address will share the address you add with anyone who has a link to your list.

Effective July 1, 2022, the state of Colorado imposed a retail delivery fee on all deliveries by motor vehicle to a location in Colorado, including residences, with at least one item of tangible personal property subject to state sales or use tax. The fee is made up of six different fees:

In mid-2018, the US law governing whether a state could collect sales tax on purchases made from internet retailers, such as ThriftBooks, changed. In the past ThriftBooks was only compelled to collect tax for a state in which we have a processing center or other physical presence. The new law now permits all states to charge sales tax regardless of whether we have a presence in that state or not.
ThriftBooks is complying with these changes as each state makes them in order to continue selling books to customers no matter where they live. Taxes will be applied to your order as applicable at checkout based on your shipping address.

All standard US packages will be delivered by the United States Post Office (USPS). Express and 2-Day shipments are delivered by FedEx. Please ensure the facility accepts packages from these carriers prior to placing your order.
ThriftBooks offers over 13 million items on our site but occasionally an item may be out of stock. We purchase our items in large lots, rather than by specific titles so we don't know exactly when a particular item will come back into stock. We've made searching for titles simple but powerful. Begin by typing an author, a title, or an ISBN into the search bar at the top of any page. ThriftBooks now offers over 13 million titles but you'll get the results quickly.
If you don't see what you want in the results, you can use the filters to look for specific items by Genre, Format (this is where you can search for Large Print), condition, language, and price.
From a desktop computer, filters can be found along the left side of your search results. From a tablet, phone, or our mobile app, click Sort & Filter to access and apply filters.
ISBN is an acronym for International Standard Book Number. An ISBN is a ten- or thirteen-digit code used to identify a book. You can find the ISBN on the back of a book near the barcode or on the copyright page. Each book has its own unique ISBN.
Unfortunately, there is no way to add more items to an order that has been submitted and paid for.
However, you can always start a new order. We have no limit to the number of orders you may place.
Unfortunately, we cannot substitute one title for a different title on our end. If you would like to substitute an item in your order, you will have to restart the check-out process.

Our mailers are made from polyethylene film, which is represented by the number 4 in the recycling world. You can recycle our mailers along with your plastic grocery bags and not worry about them ending up in a landfill! Please check with your local recycling company for further information.
New: A brand-new, unused copy in perfect condition.
Like New: No visible wear, all parts of the item are unmarked and intact, including original packaging.
Very Good: An item that is used but still in very good condition. Minimal wear to the exterior of the item, possible minor scuffs to disc surface that do not affect playback. Original packaging is included.
Good: An item in used but good condition. May have minor damage to jewel case including scuffs or cracks, or to the item cover including scuffs, scratches, or cracks. The cover art and liner notes are included for a CD. No skipping on CD/DVD.
Acceptable/Fair: An item with significant wear, but still operational. Original packaging may show significant wear and have holes or tears. Media may show scuffs and scratches. Instructions or liner notes may not be included.
ThriftBooks guarantees the quality of every item we ship out; new or used. If you receive a damaged or wrong item, please let us know by using our Online Returns Center. You will need your Order Number and the email address associated with your ThriftBooks account. For all qualifying returns*, ThriftBooks will provide a pre-paid return label. You can return items for a refund or speak to a Customer Service Representative who will work with you to resolve any issues you may have.
If a return is required, we’ve made it easy. Our Online Returns Center will walk you through the steps required to return an item for a refund. You will need your Order Number and the email address associated with your ThriftBooks account. For all qualifying returns*, ThriftBooks will provide you with a pre-paid return label, at no cost to you. Once the returned item has been received at our Returns facility, you will be credited within 48 hours. Refunds typically take 2-5 business days to process (depending on your bank).
Please do not attempt to return an item without using our label.
